september student of the month
Anita is my Student of the Month from Mrs. Moore's homeroom for September. Anita is such a delight to have in class. She is a student who wastes no time! She comes into class, gets busy working on her assignments, participates in class, & follows instructions. Because of her outstanding work habits as a student, she excels academically as well. On top of being a great student, Anita is also a great person. She is friendly, kind, & always smiling. She often volunteers to help out in the classroom. Anita is a student who exhibits the characteristics of L.I.G.H.T. each day. As a result, her classmates see Anita as a leader & someone they can count on. Anita's hard work, passion for learning, & a desire to do well is a great combination for success! I have no doubt she will be very successful in the future.
Kamryn is my Student of the Month for September from my homeroom. I have been so impressed with Kamryn because she was new to our district, new to our school, & had no friends here, yet she came in with a positive attitude, eager to learn, & made lots of friends! Now, it is as if she has been with these kids all along. I am very proud of her classmates who were welcoming to her, but it is Kamryn who came in smiling & ready to be part of this group. She is also hard-working, bright, & participates in class. With a perfect combination of brains & personality, Kamryn has a very bright future ahead of her. Welcome to Beech, Kamryn!
October Students of the month
Andrew is the October Student of the Month from my homeroom. Andrew comes to class each day ready & prepared to learn. He has a great attitude & comes in the classroom each morning smiling. Because Andrew has such a great attitude, he never complains about what he can't do. Instead, he takes on daily challenges & works to overcome them. He does not quit, give up, or become frustrated. He just keeps trying. Recently, he worked with me on an ELA concept he was struggling with. Just after a few moments of us working together, he got it! I loved seeing the look on his face when he realized he had "got it." I love his willingness to work through some of the tough stuff. He is a great example of our current unit in ELA: perseverance. Andrew is going to have a bright future! Any student with an attitude of "I can" and the willingness to work hard will overcome any obstacles. Andrew is that person!
Giovani is the Student of the Month from Mrs. Moore's homeroom. Giovani is one of the hardest working students I have ever taught. He is working hard to master the English language all while trying to learn math, Social Studies, science, & reading! Somehow, he is managing to get it done. Giovani joined this class about half way through their 5th grade year. He has adjusted well & made so many new friends. He has fit in so well with his peers that it seems he has always been a part of them. He is often seen at recess dominating on the 4-square courts. In the classroom, Giovani works extra hard. He often has additional reading to complete for me each evening in an attempt to improve his fluency & comprehension in English. He will do anything I ask him to do! He is so eager to learn & has great work ethic. Giovani has already proven that you can do anything, if you will just do it! Just this week, he made a 100 on his reading comprehension test. What a milestone that was & he will have many more that he will be celebrating as well!
november students of the month
Gwyn is my November Student of the Month from Mrs. Moore's homeroom. It has been a delight getting to know Gwyn this year. She is always a student who enters the classroom prepared, ready to go to work, and she does just that. She demonstrates our L.I.G.H.T model each day by being a leader in her behavior & academic success, showing integrity & greatness, and being honest & trustworthy. Gwyn works hard in class on her assignments as well as active listening. She completes her assignments on time & the work is done accurately. She also enjoys reading & is involved in a book club in our class. I have overheard her classmates say Gwyn that is smart & she is, but her success comes from putting in the hard work. The hard work involves being the best student you can be & I believe Gwyn does that.
Charee is the Student of the Month from my homeroom. I love seeing this sweet face enter my classroom each morning. Charee is one of those students that no matter what I give her to do, she will do it & do it well. She takes pride in her work by following instructions then doing the best work she can. She is prepared for class, eager to learn, & gets busy when she comes into the classroom each morning. There is no slacking with this girl! She has a great attitude & is always lending a helping hand in the classroom. She has took down bulletin boards while waiting for her bus to be called, turned off lamps in our classroom, & straightened up our independent reading area so it is clean & cozy. She is a hard worker whether it is working on assignments or taking care of jobs in our classroom. She is such a special part of our team & I feel honored to be her teacher.
december students of the month
Tyshaun is my December Student of the Month from my homeroom. On the day I took his picture, he had been delivered his L.I.G.H.T. t-shirt for earning all of his L.I.G.H.T. letters for the first 9 weeks. He was so proud that he wanted me to take the picture of him holding this shirt & I do not blame him. What a celebration! This means each day he has been present in school, he has earned all of his letters. It was no surprise to me when I had to get the names together for the front office because Ty shows his leadership, integrity, greatness, honesty, & trustworthiness each day. He comes to class smiling & ready to work each day. He is almost one of the first ones done with his morning work & he reads while the others catch up. It is because he comes in unpacks, reads instructions on the board, & completes it. He is not goofing off nor does he need me to remind him to get busy. He just does it! Ty has a great sense of humor & loves to tell me stories. Because of his great work ethic and his kindness & respectfulness of others, Ty will continue to do great in middle school & high school. Then these great life skills he possesses will continue as he becomes an adult & chooses to go to college or into the work force. Any college or employer would be proud to have him!
Ashley is my Student of the Month from Mrs. Moore's homeroom. This sweet, smiling face is what I see each day! Not only does she work hard in class, but she is so kind & helpful. She is always asking me if she can help me do something. Ashley is always prepared for class, attentive to the lesson, & works hard on any assignments. Because of this, she has the kind of academic success any parent would be proud of. The majority of the work she does is always above & beyond what I have asked to be done & always exceeds my expectations. I believe this shows Ashley is determined to always turn in her best work and she does. Ashley, too, shows her L.I.G.H.T. each day. I have never known her to be anything but respectful and kind to others, especially her teachers or any other adult in the school building. She loves being part of some the book clubs we have going on in class. One of my most favorite times of the day is meeting with the book clubs & listening to them discuss their books. Ashley has such a bright future ahead of her because she will work to earn it. I cannot wait to hear about all of the great things Ashely will do in the future!
January students of the month
A.J. is my student of the month for January from my homeroom. A.J. had a bit of a bumpy start to the sixth grade, but he has been working hard to improve his behavior, efforts, & his grades. The best part is that he is doing it! During the second nine weeks, A.J. found his "groove" and he has been working hard for me & Mrs. Moore. I love seeing A.J. come into class each day with a smile on his face. He is excited to learn and his work ethic with his assignments proves it. He has been striving to earn his L.I.G.H.T. letters each day. I am most proud of him for this! I cannot say enough about the efforts A.J. has made to make necessary changes so that he is successful. I know he will finish out the sixth grade strong & ready for D.R. Hill! Keep up your hard work & determination, A.J.
Makayla is the January student of the month from Mrs. Moore's homeroom. Makayla, too, is a great success story. She started the year off strong & focused, but as the weeks wore on into months, she didn't seem to have the focus & dedication she did earlier in the year. Because of this, Makayla began seeing her grades drop. This was not the Makayla I knew she was or even had the potential to be. It did not take long for Makayla to make some adjustments, get focused, and back on track! In class during instruction, she is attentive, working hard, & even has a better attitude. I love the fact that Makayla realized she was heading in the wrong direction & instead of continuing on that path, she began to make changes to help herself become successful. That is exactly what successful people do! You don't just become successful, but you make adjustments & correct what is not right so success is possible. I am seeing it in the classroom with her efforts, her grades, & her attitude. Makayla has always been well-behaved & very polite as well as well-liked & admired by her classmates. As long as Makayla continues making minor adjustments throughout her life to nudge out the negative behaviors & create positive behaviors, she will be successful!
february students of the month
Yes, this is Amelia, my February Student of the Month from my homeroom. When I told her she had been selected as Student of the Month, she immediately told me she did not want her picture made. She did not believe she looked good in photographs. I convinced her to let me take a picture of her beautiful face & smile and she let me do it. I always let the students look at the photo before I upload to make sure they are happy with it. Amelia said no & felt the photo was not good. This is so not true!!! I was going to try to take another photo, but I could tell she was very uncomfortable & we settled on a picture of her lower half. So, yes, this is Amelia or at least the photo she would allow me to post. Amelia was selected because she has been steady working hard all year long. She is a student who is always well-prepared for class, completes her assignments, & takes great pride in her work. Because of her approach, she has been academically successful this year. She does not always feel comfortable speaking out in class in front of her classmates, but if she needs help or further explanation, she does not hesitate to approach me for the help. Amelia is fun, has a great attitude, great work ethic, & seems to love learning. This is a how you spell SUCCESS!
Summer is my Student of the Month from Mrs. Moore's homeroom. Summer joined our team later in the year because her family moved to our area. She came in with a great attitude & has fit "right in" with our team. It feels like she has been a part of our group right from the beginning. From day one, Summer came to school ready & excited about learning. She is always prepared for class, completes her assignments, & participates in class. I have observed her in all of the social situations at school such as at lunch or recess and she seems to have made friends & is enjoying the 6th grade. Summer is a student who lets her L.I.G.H.T. shine everyday by showing leadership, integrity, greatness, honesty, & being trustworthy. Even though she joined our team later than the rest of our group, her peers think of her as a leader. You cannot demand to be a leader, but you must act like a leader to be one & Summer does that. She is kind, respectful, & polite to all of her teachers. I cannot wait to hear of all of the amazing things Summer will accomplish in the future! She, too, already has the recipe for success.
